Airline Dog Policy Database
Let’s face it, comparing airline pet policies sucks. It’s time consuming looking at a browser full of open tabs and easy to miss small details that matter. I figured since I already know what to look for when finding an airline I would do the research for you and compile it all in this handy tool so you can spend less time choosing an airline and more time with your furry friend planning adventures. Oh and did I mention it’s free to use?
Using the database
If you look below you will see I have set up filters for the most common things people look for. This makes it easy to narrow down your options based on the details that make sense for your next trip. Once things are narrowed down, simply scroll sideways through the table to compare the details. You can also click on the tops of some columns to sort things alphabetically, or low to high, or high to low.
I have color coded and grouped the table into sections so you will find all the in-cabin information, checked baggage and cargo travel, fees and booking, and service dog information together. There are also links to the official airline policy pages as well.
The little things
Always remember to compare your destinations entry requirements with the airline you choose before you book. Essentially these are two sets of rules parallel to each other and you have to meet both to board the plane and be allowed entry when you land. As an example, your airline may allow dogs 12 weeks and older but if you are traveling to the United States the minimum age for entry is 24 weeks.
Other things to keep in mind, maximum weight should be treated as combined weight of your dog and the carrier or crate unless otherwise noted. If the fees for dog transport vary by route, the lowest fee will be shown and there will be a note that the cost varies by route.
I also have airline specific guides available that you can link to from the table. These are great to give you a final, more detailed look at the airlines dog policy, booking process, route restrictions and more. If you need help figuring out how dog carrier sizes work I wrote a guide for that.
How this database is updated
This database is built using each airlines official policy pages. If an airline doesn’t publish a specific requirement I leave it blank instead of guessing. If the airline wording is vague, you will find a note explaining things. All the weights and dimensions are in metric and fees in USD so the table is easier to compare.
Each airline row includes links to the official policy pages used and a last-checked date, so you can verify the latest information before booking.
That said, airlines can change their policies. Use this as a planning tool and then double check with the airline before booking.
